Best protein bar recipes without protein powder
Munching on a high-protein sweet treat after a heavy workout is an excellent idea. Or maybe you could just eat it as a snack that's part of a healthy weight loss diet.
But what do you do if you don't want to use any protein powders? Fear not - the results are just as good. Here are the best powder-free protein bars you can make at home and eat on the go!
- No bake chocolate protein bars from Letz get cooking
Main protein source(s): cottage cheese, egg whites
Of course, I couldn't start this list with something rather than my own recipe. I have my reasons why: each bar boasts more than 11 grams of the macronutrient! Those come mostly from cottage cheese and egg whites, but also get a decent amount of protein from oats, nuts and seeds. So fast, easy and healthy - you'll be obsessed. What's more: when frozen, these taste like ice cream bars.
- Cheap vegan protein bars from Power Hungry https://www.powerhungry.com/2017/08/cheap-easy-vegan-protein-bars/
Main protein source(s): chickpeas, oats, nuts & seeds
Although a little lower in protein - almost 9.5g per bar - these have the advantage of being vegan. However, you should be careful, as they are pretty high in fats. I would suggest adding way less nuts than the recipe calls for and use ground flaxseeds instead. Boom, problem solved.
- Cheap protein bars from The Protein Chef https://theproteinchef.co/cheap-protein-bars-without-powder-recipe/
Main protein source(s): cottage cheese, Greek yogurt
These bars have a ton of high-quality protein because of the dairy and the eggs. In fact, each bar has 8g of protein and only 110 calories! These are great to build muscles and get buff if you add some fruit. Not to mention the flavors are customizable.
- PB2 vegan granola protein bars from Slim-shopping https://www.slim-shoppin.com/recipe/pb2-peanut-butter-granola-bars-5-weight-watchers-smart-points/
Main protein source(s): PB2, oats
These bars only have 5g of protein per serving, but that can easily be fixed by adding some pumpkin or hemp seeds. By the way, you can also amp up the protein ante in these bars by adding cocoa powder right into the batter. By doing that, you get 7.5g of protein in a 135-calorie yummy snack that's filled with plant-based goodness.
