How to make sure you get all your nutrients

29.06.2022

Unfortunately, too many people have several important nutrients missing from their diets, which can lead to serious health issues. For example, some studies revealed that the majority of Americans aren't getting enough fiber, potassium, magnesium, vitamin C, etc.

On the other hand, a multivitamin pill isn't the best way to feed your body with the nutrients it needs. Why not get it through the most natural way aka food?

That can be tricky. And very difficult - but not impossible. If you follow these tips, you might help yourself avoid future health issues, such as cancer, heart disease or diabetes.

1) Get your five-a-day

This can't be stressed enough.

If you really want to make sure your body gets what it needs, you should pile up on fruit and veggies. There are many ways you can ensure you get your five-a-day without having to compromise om taste, no matter how much of a picky eater you are. Try sneaking some spinach or kale into your next smoothie; choose tomato sauces, hummus and guacamole over fattening dips and spreads; enjoy veggie-loaded soups and lettuce wraps - the possibilities are endless! I don't think you need a reminder to eat fruit though!

2) Look for nutrient-rich beverages

Everyone says that we must hydrate. It's true, but what do we do if we get bored of plain ol' water?

Surprisingly, there are several beverages you can sneak into your diet to get some extra nutrients without adding too much calories. And no, I don't mean vitamin water or sports drinks - I think we all know they're scams. I mean things like teas, homemade lemonade, fruit-infused water, vegetable juices, coconut water and even coffee.

3) Enjoy smoothies

Smoothies are these magical things you can make from everything. From fruits and veggies to nuts to... beans?!? Yes, you read that right. No matter what you decide to put into the blender, ensure that you'll get a filling and nutrient-rich drink. If you hate leafy greens but want to use them for your weight loss journey (or if you just want to be healthier), sneak some into a shake made with plenty of fruit. You will not taste it, but you will get all the benefits! Sounds like a great deal to me.

4) Pair foods strategically

It is possible to pair foods in a way that helps you absorb their nutrients better. Some of these combinations include:

  • Vitamin C + iron
  • Fat-soluble vitamins (vitamins A, D, E & K) + fats
  • Iron and zinc + sulfur
